Website Sales and Support Information
Website Sales Support
I have made this info page so that you can check the procedure involved.
Please use "Flippa" for all correspondence, so that it is in one place, easy to follow and a safeguard for each of us.
After the information regarding the sale and transfer, I have given some general information, based on questions and to save time for all of us.
This is what I will do before transferring the WordPress site
1. Check Website Settings
Log in To Admin area of website
General Settings
WordPress address (URL)
Blog address (URL)
Permalink Settings
Custom Structure = /%postname%/
Upgrade WordPress to the latest version before transferring site
2. Backup a copy of the website using the "WordPress Database Backup" plugin.
3. Download the database as an sql file from my HostGator Cpanel.
This is what you should do.
1. Open a NameCheap account so that the domain transfer is free. Supply me your "Username"
(If you prefer to use another domain registrar you can transfer the domain shortly before renewal time)
2. Make payment for the website to my Paypal account.
HOSTING
Do you have your own hosting?
Do you need hosting?
Hosting can be supplied for $50 for a year.
NEXT
After payment is received I will push the Domain Name to your NameCheap account.
The domain will need the DNS details for the hosting company changed inside your NameCheap account, so that the domain will point to the correct server.
Website FTP Details
The domain needs to be added to your host and the FTP details need to be noted.
A MYSQL database needs to be setup with the same details as the original website.
The sql file must be imported, so that all the settings are retained.
The config.php file will need to be updated with the Database Name and Database User, that has been created when the MYSQL database is created.
The WordPress folders and files need to be downloaded from my HostGator Cpanel and then uploaded to your host.
Check Settings
1. Check the website to see that it looks the same and that all links work.
2. Login to the admin area of WordPress and check that the settings remain the same:
General Settings
WordPress address (URL)
Blog address (URL)
Permalink Settings
Custom Structure = /%postname%/
Login to the admin area
1. Go to Users and put your email address in and change the password and retain it to login the next time.
2. Settings > Amazon > Put your Amazon ID number to enable the Amazon sales to go to your Amazon Accounts.
3. Settings > Google Analytics > Put your UID number to enable tracking if you wish to use the service.
4. Tools > Backup > Change the email addresses to your own and schedule an autobackup.
5. Plugins > Akismet Configuration > Put your Akismet key number in here
Troubleshooting
1. Error establishing a database connection
ans. This means that MYSQL database has the wrong information.
Open the config.php file and check that Database Name + Database User are the same as displayed in the MYSQL area of the Cpanel at the hosting service.
